install and start octave with gui in ubuntu [ubuntu]

Ubuntu:
use the octave version from ubuntu software-center:
search in Ubuntu Software-Center for ‘octave’
install ‘GNU Octave’ (at this time i got octave 3.8.1-1ubuntu1)

start octave in gui(graphical user interface):
1) copy the following line:
octave --force-gui
2) open terminal (ctrl+alt+t)
3) paste your clipboard into terminal with (ctrl+shift+v)
4) press enter
done 🙂

or use the latest octave version from ppa:
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:octave/stable
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install octave

Debian:
get the stable version:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install octave

get the unstable version:
add the testing debs to the source.list file:
https://fredfire1.wordpress.com/2015/11/24/install-software-from-stable-testing-unstable-experimental-raspberrypidebianubuntu/

install it:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get -t testing install octave
